Site Area: 531sqm
House Area: 185 sqm

Brief: Renovation & Extension

The Royal Parade House, situated in the evolving landscape of Pascoe Vale North, achieves a thoughtful balance between heritage and contemporary living through a carefully considered renovation. While the original dwelling is respectfully preserved, a modern single-storey rear extension unfolds with clarity. This new addition is defined by a clean, geometric aesthetic and a restrained material palette, featuring white brick and render, accented by black steel and finely detailed timber battens.
Designed as a flexible family environment, the home caters equally to everyday life, remote work, and the needs of a beloved pet. The open-plan living areas flow effortlessly outward, merging the interior with the garden space. A separate outdoor BBQ pavilion, sheltered by a timber batten roof, provides filtered light for year-round social gatherings.
Light is a crucial architectural element. A strategically placed light court garden introduces native plants deep into the floor plan, enhancing biophilia and ensuring views of greenery from every room. This connection to the outdoors is further strengthened by high-performance windows and a design that encourages natural cross-flow ventilation.
Sustainability is integral to the design. A highly energy-efficient home is delivered through passive heating and shading strategies, significant thermal mass, high insulation levels, and an all-electric system. This results in a calm, temperate internal environment that intuitively adjusts to seasonal changes.
The interiors are warm and understated, characterised by a quiet richness. Natural finishes, tactile surfaces, and high-end fixtures and lighting are bathed in abundant natural light, creating a reinforced sense of ease and permanence.
Framed by layered and generous landscaping, the Royal Parade House offers a contemporary, grounded, and enduring interpretation of family living, deeply connected to its locale.
