Brief: New Build

The King St House, situated within the dynamic setting of Brunswick East, is a meticulously conceived new build, double-storey residence. It successfully marries clarity of architectural form with a rich experiential quality. Designed to facilitate multigenerational living, the home seamlessly accommodates a growing family, offers work-from-home adaptability, and allows for a diverse range of flexible living arrangements.
Its composed street presence is defined by a serene, contemporary façade, featuring a combination of white brick, fine render, and natural timber battens. Subtle surface articulation captures and amplifies natural light throughout the day, creating layered, shifting shadows that respond to the seasons. This sophisticated design language extends inside, where a refined material palette of natural textures and detailed craftsmanship instills warmth across the generous, light-drenched interiors.
Central to the design is a striking entry void that serves a dual purpose: drawing daylight deep into the floor plan and promoting effective stack ventilation. This vertical volume continues over the living room into a feature void, where a dramatically sloped ceiling enhances the sense of space. A sculptural spiral staircase acts as both the core circulation element and a central focal point, linking the two levels with fluid grace.
Living spaces flow effortlessly into a fully integrated alfresco zone, complete with an outdoor kitchen, offering direct access to the pool and garden. This seamless indoor-outdoor connection is perfect for both quiet family moments and hosting larger social gatherings. The site’s edges are softened by the integration of regenerated native vegetation, embedding the home within its surrounding landscape.
Environmental performance is a foundational element of the design. The home employs passive strategies for heating, cooling, shading, and natural ventilation, reinforced by robust insulation and high-performance uPVC double glazing. Aligned with net zero goals, the house operates on fully electric systems, including heat pump services, complemented by rooftop solar generation.
Ultimately, through smart storage solutions and thoughtful planning, the King St House maintains both its elegance and high functionality—a sophisticated home designed to adapt and evolve with its occupants over the years
